    Dec. 23, 2001
Sorry it took so long, but the final Grades are finally ready.

    Dec. 15, 2001
Don't forget the final at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, in the regular classroom.

Labs have been returned, and the Grades page is updated.

Well, I'm back in the Palouse. I won't depress you all with details of the weather in San Diego, but in class tomorrow:
        a. I'll tell you about cool stuff from the LISA conference.
        b. We'll have a final exam review.

    Nov. 28, 2001
Lab 9 and Lab 10 are both ready. Both are due Dec. 12. That doesn't necessarily mean you should put them off. :^)

I will be there for lab tomorrow, but there will be no lab next week. There will also be no class next week, since I'll be at the LISA conference.

    Nov. 25, 2001
I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving break.

We'll continue on with DNS this week, and we'll have a quiz on TCP/IP and Network Hardware on Wednesday.

    Nov 12, 2001
This Wednesday, we'll start on DNS. We'll also have a quiz on log files.

There will be no lab this week.

Grades are updated. Check yours. A number of people are missing labs. Remember, the labs are 40% of the final grade.

      Happy Halloween.

    Oct 21, 2001
Hopefully, this week will go better. We'll finish up cron and start on log files.

    Oct 17, 2001
Well, due to a number of circumstances, the quiz on users is
      rescheduled to Monday.

Lab 6 is ready. I ended up going home sick today, but I'm planning on being there tomorrow. If plans change, I'll post a notice to this page by 3:00 pm. If you don't see anything by then, assume we'll have lab as scheduled.

    Oct 10, 2001
    Oct 7, 2001
    Oct 3, 2001
      Lab 4 is ready.

There will be a quiz Monday on the Unix filesystem.

I'll probably start posting Grades this weekend. This gives you the chance to make sure I've recorded all of your grades, and have recorded them correctly. It also lets you keep tabs on how you're doing. You do have the option to have your grades excluded from the page. If you want to be excluded, let me know.

    Sep. 30, 2001
This week, we'll focus on users, both in lecture and in lab.

    Sep. 19, 2001
    Sep. 17, 2001
Eeek! I didn't get the quiz ready for today, so we'll have the quiz on Wednesday. Sorry about that.

    Sep. 16, 2001
    Sep. 12, 2001
Lab 2 is ready to go. The labs are a little ahead of the lecture, but you should be ok.

As announced in class today, we'll have the first quiz on Monday. It will cover the introduction, booting and shutting down, and rootly powers. You should be able to answer short-answer questions like "What is root's UID?" or "What are the two major branches of Unix?"

Welcome to the Spring, 2001 Semester.
Whenever there's an announcement to make, or a new lecture outline, or an interesting link from somewhere on the web, it'll show up here. Think of this page as a weblog for the class.
